The organizations of the United Nations present in Lebanon cover a wide range of mandates, including peacekeeping, assistance to refugees, humanitarian assistance, technical cooperation and financial assistance for development.

This is the web site of the United Nations System in Lebanon, the window on the world of the many different organizations of the United Nations present and/or active in Lebanon. Sixteen organizations are represented in Lebanon and are active in the fields of health, education, child protection/rights, population, environment management, poverty alleviation, women empowerment, agricultural and industrial development, employment, social protection and sustainable livelihood, poverty alleviation, governance and participation.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) launched the first meeting of the Lebanese National Youth Parliament (LNYP) on 23 June 2009, at the UNESCO Palace. The ceremony was held under the patronage and presence of H.E. the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Ms. Bahia Hariri, and the Director-General of Education, Mr. Fady Yarak.

In view of the popularity of the Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) in Lebanon in the fight against HIV/AIDS, an “expansion meeting” was held on May 30, 2009 to engage new actors for volunteering as part of this initiative. The wide variety of participants coming from different geographical areas and backgrounds enriched the meeting and allowed a very peasant interaction among youth from different cultural backgrounds.

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, in Lebanon in collaboration with the Italian Cooperation organized a meeting on June 4, 2009 for reviewing and validating the Gender Based Violence (GBV) national plan of action. This meeting builds on previous initiatives and relevant GBV meetings specifically the GBV technical meeting (held on March 18, 2009) and the subsequent working meeting (held on April 23, 2009), both of which have been substantial and generated concrete and realistic outcomes.

On the occasion of World Cultural Diversity Day, on 22 May 2009, 45 teachers were trained at UNESCO Beirut on how to teach the UNESCO book "Cultural Aspects of the Christian and Islamic Religions" to school children.
