The organizations of the United Nations present in Lebanon cover a wide range of mandates, including peacekeeping, assistance to refugees, humanitarian assistance, technical cooperation and financial assistance for development.
This is the web site of the United Nations System in Lebanon, the window on the world of the many different organizations of the United Nations present and/or active in Lebanon. Sixteen organizations are represented in Lebanon and are active in the fields of health, education, child protection/rights, population, environment management, poverty alleviation, women empowerment, agricultural and industrial development, employment, social protection and sustainable livelihood, poverty alleviation, governance and participation.

From July 26 through 28, 2009, UNDP ART GOLD Lebanon hosted the Belgian Decentralized Cooperation Delegation. The aim of the mission was to identify means of potential cooperation in the agricultural sector between Lebanese communities from North Lebanon and the Bekaa region, and Belgian local communities.

For the second consecutive year, the United Nations Development Program organized, in partnership with the Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Committee (LPDC) and in cooperation with the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies (LCPS), a summer school that gathered 16 young men and women from Nahr el Bared Camp and the six surrounding municipalities.

The number of people forcibly uprooted by conflict and persecution worldwide stood at 42 million at the end of last year amid a sharp slowdown in repatriation and more prolonged conflicts resulting in protracted displacement. The total includes 16 million refugees and asylum seekers and 26 million internally displaced people uprooted within their own countries, according to UNHCR’s annual “Global Trends” report released today.
