The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) provides direct support to the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team, including advisory, technical and organization and management support.
The UNRC Office undertakes a variety of functions, among which the following:
- Supports the planning, implementation and monitoring of the UN Country Team common work programme and the preparation of the UNRC Annual Report.
- Facilitates and supports UN System collaborative programming processes, including CCA/UNDAF joint and collaborative programme initiatives and MDGs.
- Supports and promotes information sharing and collaborative action among government, donors and the UN System.
- Provides technical and administrative support to the different coordination mechanisms and ensures follow-up with a view to achieving progress and results.
- Manages, keeps up-to-date and develops the UN System web site.
Successful action of the UN System is a complex and intensive process; it requires generous support to enable such process to emerge and produce concrete results and impact at the national level. In the past years, financial support has been provided by UNDP from Support for the Resident Coordinator (SRC) funds and by the UN Country Coordination Fund (UNCCF). UN organizations have mainly funded common and collaborative operational activities for strategic national priorities.
It is to be noted that as a direct consequence of the summer 2006 war, The RC Office established four recovery sub-offices in Tyre, Bekaa, Beirut Southern Suburbs and Tripoli, with residual coordination funding from OCHA (24 October 2006 to 31 May 2007) and, subsequently, with financial support from ECHO (as of 1 June 2007).
