UN Partners with Beirut Marathon Association
The UN System in Lebanon has announced a one-year partnership with the Beirut Marathon Association on the occasion of the UN’s 70th anniversary this year.
The partnership aims at strengthening the relationship that bonds the UN with the Lebanese people and civil society to promote the values of peace, human rights and sustainable development.
UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Ms. Sigrid Kaag welcomed the partnership with the Beirut Marathon Association. “Sports plays an invaluable role in promoting values that serve peace and development.” Ms. Kaag recognized the role played by the Beirut Marathon Association in bringing Lebanese people from different ages, backgrounds, areas and political affiliations together at a time when the country was facing numerous challenges.
Seventy UN staff members from different UN agencies operating in Lebanon will run the 10K race in the Banque du Liban Beirut Marathon on Sunday 8 November 2015.  The UN will also support other sports activities organized by the Beirut Marathon throughout the year.
