UNIC Beirut holds teach-in session on SDGs with local NGO
In line with its mandate to promote UN values, work and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Lebanon, UNIC Beirut has collaborated with local NGO Riyada to hold a training session on the SDGs in July 2017 in Beirut.

The training was delivered by a UNIC staff member to 30 young people (ages 15+) on the SDGs within the project “Riyada Youth Innovation Summer Program”. The program is under the Summer of Innovation initiative of Lebanese PM Saad Hariri, and in collaboration with Edgemakers Inc., a US-based leader in innovation and creativity education, as well as other partners from the local private sector.

The program aspired to transform the youth into social innovators and make them believe that they can create change and make the world a better place by using technology and entrepreneurship. The participants were equipped with innovation and creativity, technical and entrepreneurship skills, through fun exercises, video screenings and a field visit. Participants learned about the 17 SDGs and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda’s history and purpose. At the end of this program, participants developed a mobile application to solve a real social problem related to one of the 17 SDG's.

The program was concluded with a graduation ceremony on Wednesday August 9, 2017 at the Grand Serail, Beirut. Participants received certificates of accomplishment and the winning teams received awards for their developed applications.
