Young Lebanese talents convey message of peace from Lebanon to the world
Around 24 young talents from Lebanon staged live performances in an arts talent show organized on the occasion of the International Day of Peace 2017. Under the patronage of the United Nations Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut) and Badghan Cultural Club, the Media Association for Peace-MAP celebrated peace day in a show that conveyed a message of openness and peace from Lebanon to the world. The event featured multiples talents ranging from singing to folk dancing. It was organized in partnership with NGOs “Dafa Charitable Association” and “Youth Steps” at Badghan Cultural and Social Club in Aley. This is the sixth edition of the show, which MAP organizes every year in a different Lebanese village to spread the message of peace and support local talents.

Commenting on the event, Margo Helou, UNIC Beirut Acting Director, said the Centre is keen to joining forces with all segments of Lebanese society to spread the culture of peace as widely as possible. She commended MAP’s perseverance in celebrating this international day for the past six years uninterrupted, of which two jointly with UNIC Beirut. She also asserted the importance of integrating young people in the process of establishing peace, given that they bear the responsibility of building the future and ensuring the sustainability of the planet.

In her opening address, Vanessa Bassil, MAP Founder and President, thanked all partners for organizing the event, stressing the need to celebrate the International Day of Peace in all Lebanese regions to convey a message of love and peace from Lebanon to the world. She further emphasized the “importance of art and music as a common language among people, that can convey a message of love, rapprochement, and peace.”

Lara Shayya, representative of “Dafa Charitable Association,” pointed out the importance of understanding true peace, “which not only excludes conflicts, but also resolves them through peaceful means through dialogue, education, knowledge and humane methods.”

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. At the end of the show all participants received certificates of appreciation.
